Although the images contained in this collection are taken from recently published works, by publishers who have made great efforts to restore and reprint the comics from their original sources, their reproductions remain in the public domain in the United States. While the books from which the comics are scanned do include some new, copyrighted material in the form of essays and annotations, none of the new material is included in this collection. For an excellent and succinct explanation of what alterations make for a derivitive work and which do not, see "Gutenberg: No Sweat of the Brow Copyright". Also see Bridgeman Art Library v. Corel Corp.
The Comic Strip Library does, however, support the publishers who are putting out high quality collections of classic comics. For a list of some works both of and about the comics included in this collection, see the Books and Links section of the site.
